Randy Kung take the wins at WCRC Summer Series - 7/31/10

Reported by Randy Kung - 7/31/10, 15 Heats, West Coast R/C Raceway, Endless Summer  - The fourth round of the endless summer series began with Rand Kung racing the Expert 4WD Short Course.  It was his second time racing on the new layout.  For the first round of qualifying, Randy had a traction roll on the sweeper on the last lap which didn’t allow him to take the TQ.  However, on the second round of qualifying, Randy took the TQ by 4 seconds over the Round 1 qualifying time.  As the mains began, Randy took the early lead battling with newest OFNA member Gaige Herrera.  As the long 7 minute A-Main went on, it would be Randy Kung being the only driver to make 19 laps, finishing in a pace of a 19/ 7:16.

King Kung took another one at WCRC - 7/28/10

Reported by Randy Kung - West Coast R/C Raceway, New Layout : It was the first race at West Coast R/C Raceway with the new layout as Randy Kung raced the 4WD Short Course.  In round 1 of qualifying, Randy kept it safe just to get used to the track and set the early TQ of 13/5:07.  As for round 2, Randy decided to try different lines to set a faster TQ.  Although he never rolled over, the pace was actually slower. Once the mains began, Randy took the early lead and never had one roll over until the last lap while trying the tricky double section.  He took the win with a new pace of 13/5:06.

Chad Bradley win the Tuesday Night Nationals - 7/27/10

Reported by Chad Bradley - Tuesday Night Nationals at Hot Rod Hobbies: Chad Bradley and Jeremy Kortz were on hand Tuesday night to battle it out in the 4wd Short Course class at Hot Rod Hobbies in Santa Clarita CA. In round 1 of qualifying Jeremy Kortz lead out with the Hyper 10sc till the very last lap, Chad driving the Jammin SCRT 10 was able to get around Jeremy on the final lap to secure the top qualifying position after one round of qualifying. In round two Chad was able to better his round one time by a few seconds and take the overall TQ. The first lap of the main event was a little messy, a mistake by Chad and Jeremy caused some congestion with the up front drivers, however after the first lap Chad was able to settle in the lead and take the win, Robert Ibon finished second, both driving the SCRT-10.

King Kung's run again at WCRC - 7/24/10
Reported by Randy Kung - 7/24/2010, 12 Heats, West Coast R/C Raceway, Round 3 Endless Summer Series - With Round 3 of the Endless Summer Series it would be Randy Kung racing the 4WD Short Course Division.  In the first round of qualifying, Randy would finish in the 2nd spot with Kyle Johnson taking the early TQ. For the second round, Randy started in front of the race and led until the end setting a new TQ by 2 seconds.  As the mains began, it would be a battle until the last two laps when lapped traffic flipped right in front of Randy on the straightaway.  Randy finished in the 2nd spot as Kyle Johnson took the win.

There were 2 heats of Expert 1/8 scale for the 3rd round of the Endless Summer Series.  Jason Kung would take the early TQ in round 1 of qualifying.  In the second round of qualifying, the TQ pace was ahead of Jason’s by 2 seconds which didn’t allow Jason to set the TQ.  As the long 7 minute A-Main began Jason would start in the second position.  After taking the lead sometime throughout the race, a bobble after the whoop section would allow Jason lose that first position.  As the battle kept going, it was all down to the last triple.  As the leader cased the jump, Jason would downside it and takes the win by less then five-hundredths of a second.

Hyper 10SC Nitro wins The Watermelon Classic - 7/17/10

Reported by Robin Nelson - 7/17/10, Hyper 10SC Nitro wins The Watermelon Classic! This past weekend I attended my areas' most famous race, The Watermelon Classic.  The race is held in Aiken, SC at Boyd Pond Park. Ron Allen, Andy Fogle and Travis Phillips have done a great job giving the facility a face lift and designing new track layouts.  The track used to be loamy and sandy but now the track is hard packed and blue grooved. With the soaring temperatures and high humidity, car setups and tire choices would prove to be a challenge for the racers.  This years race was a great success with 150 racers from surrounding states attending. The race was spread across three days with Friday practice, Saturday qualifying and Sunday mains.  In qualifying, I took the TQ in Mod SCT class with the only 9 lap runs of the day.  Dennis Allison qualified 2nd and Doug Tudor was 3rd.  In Pro Buggy qualifying, I had problems finding the right tire at the right time and I qualified fourteenth.  With 12 car mains, ten cars with 2 bump up cars from the previous main, this put me in the B Main.  I won the B main which was 20 minutes and gave me some idea of tire wear in preparation for the 45 minute A Main.  In the A Main I didn't get a clean start and ran fourth or fifth until the last couple of minutes when my rear wing popped off and my rear suspension collapsed.  Here are the results of the Mod Short Course class.

Randy Kung wins at WCRC - 7/17/10

Reported by Wei Kung - 7/17/10, 12 Heats, West Coast R/C Raceway, Endless Summer Series Round 2 - With Round 2 of the Summer Series, Randy Kung would be racing the Expert 4WD Short Course class. For the first round of qualifying, it was a battle until the last lap when Randy decided to go for an air pass and didn’t get the TQ. For the second qualifier, Randy made a bobble in the whoop section on the second lap. Randy finished 1.2 seconds behind the TQ pace. When the mains began, Gaige Herrera started from the pole with Randy in the second spot. With a battle onto the big triple, both drivers collided in air and sent them to the last two positions. However, Randy took the lead and stayed consistent until the end of the 5 minute A-Main.

OFNA Dominates 4x4 Short Course Nationals - 7/12/10
Reported by OFNAdave  - The OFNA 4x4 Short Course Team, which includes Hyper and Jammin pilots, made the trip to the east coast for the RC Madness Short Course Nationals in Enfield, CT.  I have not gotten a report on the track conditions, but I need to clarify what we entered.  OFNA only makes 4x4 Short Course Product, no 2wd found here!  So, for this event, we raced in 1:10 4x4 SC Electric with 550 cans brushless systems, since 540 can systems burn-up and a waste of time.  But the 4x4 SC Nitro class included both 1:10 and 1:8th size vehicles and in the case of Associated this means a RC8sc.  This didn't seem fair but that is what the Madness Group wanted, anyway we got the win!.  As for the actual racing event brief, I haven't got the team back and will try to update this week!  Thank You to all the OFNA drivers and to there hard work in getting the results.

Randy & Jason Kung take the wins at WCRC - 7/12/10
Reported by Randy Kung - 7/12/10, 7 Heats, West Coast R/C Raceway- Danny S. Birthday – One Year Anniversary: With the $10 race entries at West Coast, Randy raced the 4WD Short Course class. As qualifying began for Randy, he made a couple rollovers and finished in a 14/5:19 pace. He then finished with a 14/5:15 pace in the second round. Unfortunately, Randy wasn’t able to set the TQ. As the main began, Randy took the lead with second place right behind him. With more bobbles in the main, second place was able to get around Randy with about 3 minutes left. The leader then had a bobble at the same spot Randy had which allowed Randy to inherit the lead. Randy won with the pace at a 14/5:13 Jason raced the 1-8 buggy class and took the early TQ in round 1 with a 15/5:07. He had also won round 2 of qualifying with a 15/5:03. The mains began with Jason taking the early lead in the 7 minute A-Main. Jason spins out in the washboard section which allows second place to take over the lead. Jason begins pushing the car and takes over the top spot with two minutes to go. He begins to pull away and finishes first in a 21 lap run.

Randy wins at West Coast R/C Raceway - 7/10/10
Reported by Randy Kung - 7/10/10, 8 Heats, West Coast R/C Raceway: With summer vacation going on, it has been almost a month since we have raced. We decided to race the usual 4WD Short Course and 1-8 Scale Buggy. Unfortunately, Jason’s motor blew up during practice and wasn’t able to race. Since we haven’t raced for nearly a month, Randy’s confidence during qualifying wasn’t at full. He broke on the first qualifier by landing incorrectly on the big triple. On the second qualifier, he started in the back and wasn’t able to set a new TQ. However, as the mains began, Randy took the early lead with second place right behind. As a near perfect run, Randy beat the track record by running a 14/5:05, 4 seconds ahead of the old record.

Chad/SCRT10 Wins 5th Rd. JBRL - 7/3/10

Reported by DJ - Over the holiday weekend the JBRL series rolled over to Pegasus Hobbies for round #5. With over 185 entries it was sure to be a long day, but with awesome racing and spectacular weather the day would be not so bad. SC Unlimited would see Chad Bradley take the win and Tq to stretch his points lead over Jeremy Kortz. There was no contest for the Jammin driver as he would put a lap on the entire field in the quals using his M3 Proline Holeshot Sc tires. So again the race would be more for second place as the rest of the field would be close in quals only swapping one position in the 2nd qual for one of the drivers, so from Chad on back would be DJ, Kevin Smith, James Grossaint and Will Eikendberry. Racing goes into a good start as Chad was dialed from the sound of the tone with no one to challenge pacing at 21.0 sec. or below, the battle would come as Kevin and Dj would race again from the last round. But Kevin would stretch his 2nd position and Dj was falling back into the clutches of Will. As time was running out Kevin had a crash between a back-marker that caused him to break Dj would jump into the 2nd spot at the end of the race as Will would take the final podium spot.

Brian Bourland takes round 2 in the Local Joe Point Series 6/26/10

Reported by DJ - On June 26th, Reo Raceway located just outside of Evansville, In hosted round 2 of the Local Joe Point series.  A four race series alternating between Asylum in Louisville, Ky and across the river at the Reo Raceway.  Over 80 entries came out during the 95+ degree weather.

Qualifying used 3 rounds of rocket style qualifying with the fastest time over 3 rounds seeing top honors.  The rounds were tight and qualifying was fierce.  In the 3rd round I was able to take TQ in nitro buggy with the only car to reach the eleven lap mark.  After the 30 minute main I brought my Hyper 9 2.0 back in the number one spot.

This was also my first time out with the Hyper 9E, which saw myself fortunate to Tq the class.  But in the main my good luck would run-out as electrical issues forced an early retirement, although the buggies handling was amazing!

Good job Brian, now the local Joe's know who the fast guy is driving the Hyper 9's
